LingoTab is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your learning journey is personal, and your data should stay with you.

What Data We Collect

None.

We do not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal information, usage data, or analytics. The extension operates entirely on your local device.

What Data is Stored Locally

The following preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's Storage API:

Selected CEFR Level: Your chosen proficiency level (A0-C2)
Selected Topic: Your preferred learning topic
Favorite Phrases: Phrases you've marked as favorites
Shown Phrases: Tracking which phrases you've already seen (to avoid repetition)
Translation Toggle: Whether you prefer to see English translations

This data never leaves your device and is only accessible by the extension on your browser.

Third-Party Services

None.

We do not use any third-party services, analytics tools, tracking pixels, or external APIs. The extension is completely self-contained.

Note: The extension includes external links to YouTube to provide credit for offline audio dialogues. These are standard web links and clicking them opens YouTube in a new tab. We do not embed YouTube players or send any data to YouTube.

Audio Pronunciation

Audio pronunciation uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API (Speech Synthesis). This is a native browser feature and does not send data to external servers. The audio is generated locally on your device.

Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions:

storage: To save your preferences (level, topic, favorites) locally on your device. This data is never transmitted anywhere.
chrome_url_overrides (newtab): To replace the new tab page with the learning interface. This is the core functionality of the extension.

We do not request permissions for network access, browsing history, or any other sensitive data.

Data Export

When you export your favorites, a text file is generated locally on your device and downloaded through your browser. No data is sent to any server during this process.

Updates to This Policy

If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this page and the "Last Updated" date. However, our commitment to not collecting user data will remain unchanged.
